Family Time

Within the first ten lines of reading aloud "Goblin Market," Elijah interrupted the long list of succulent fruits--"Is it a trick? If they eat the fruit, someone will eat them..."  Yes, we were proud parents! He was riveted during most of the story, except a bit at the end, which, when all get happily married, blah, blah, blah is pretty boring! But, that, of course, is the point.

Please post questions on Gabriel Rossetti and perhaps Hopkins too.

Rossetti Questions-

1.) In "Gablin Market" fruit is on of the main subject matters. Could this fruit be viewed as sacred fruit such as the story of Adam & Eve or does the fruit in the poem take on a different approach?

2.) Why is it that in the poem "Birthday" the narrator is happy because her love is coming although a birthday represents a day of self-celebtration? Why is the narrator relient on "her love" rather than herself?

In regards to Dante Gabriel Rossetti:

1) Rossetti references nature in several of his poems. What purpose does this serve? Pay particular attention to "Silent Noon" where nature is used to describe an interlude with a woman.

2)In the poem "The Landmark" what tone do you believe Rossetti is conveying and how?
